Welcome to Boy Scout Troop 637 Empowering Young Leaders in Castle Rock & Surrounding Communities

Boy Scout Troop 637 serves Castle Rock, Castle Pines, Sedalia, Larkspur, and the surrounding Douglas County communities. Originally founded in Sedalia, our troop has built a strong legacy of outdoor adventure, community service, and character development. Beginning in 2026, we are proud to enter an exciting new chapter chartered by Saint Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in Castle Rock.

Why Troop 637?

• Scout-Led Weekly Meetings: Troop 637 meets every Tuesday from 7:00 PM to 8:30 PM at Castle Rock Elementary (or MAC Park, weather permitting). Driven by youth leadership, each meeting follows a purposeful rhythm. We open with a traditional flag ceremony before moving into that week's main focus—either hands-on skill activities, Patrol Leaders’ Council (PLC) planning, a merit badge course, or a fun team-building outing like Sky Zone, mini-golf, or game night. These rotating sessions ensure Scouts build strong camaraderie, continually advance in rank, and prepare for upcoming outdoor adventures. We wrap up every gathering with a "circle up" for announcements, followed by an inspiring Scoutmaster’s Minute before dismissal.

• Youth Leadership in Action: Serving on the Patrol Leaders’ Council (PLC) is one of the most rewarding leadership opportunities in Scouting and a key step toward earning Eagle Scout. One Tuesday meeting each month is dedicated to the PLC, where the Senior Patrol Leader (SPL)—with Scoutmaster mentorship—leads this youth team in planning Troop 637’s weekly meetings, merit badge courses, campouts, and service projects. Because holding a leadership position is required for advanced ranks, active PLC participation builds essential communication, teamwork, and decision-making skills. All Scouts are encouraged to attend, voice their ideas, and take an active role in shaping their Scouting journey.

• Outdoor Adventures & Summer Camps: Troop 637 offers a year-round outdoor program tailored for every stage of a Scout’s journey. Our Scouts attend BSA summer camps—including Camp Alexander nestled in the Pike National Forest or Camp Bighorn at Peaceful Valley Scout Ranch—while older youth participate in National Youth Leadership Training (NYLT) to develop executive leadership skills.

To help newer Scouts thrive, we host our dedicated Trail to First Class campout, focusing on foundational rank advancement and outdoor mastery. Throughout the year, our calendar stays packed with diverse adventures: from tackling Colorado 14er mountain hikes, Sand Dunes family camping trip, and lake canoe outings to high-thrill winter experiences like local ice fishing, ice climbing, and overnight wilderness survival shelters.

• High Adventure Treks: For Scouts ready to push their boundaries, Troop 637 offers high-impact High Adventure expeditions to the premier outdoor destinations in the country. We have taken on the legendary rugged trails of Philmont Scout Ranch in New Mexico, navigated the tropical waters and sailing routes of Florida Sea Base, and paddled through the pristine backcountry of Northern Tier. These challenging multi-day treks require months of crew planning, physical conditioning, and leadership development—delivering life-changing experiences where Scouts learn to lead under real wilderness conditions. Crew preparation begins a full year in advance, with Scouts leading the planning process, managing logistics, and completing a rigorous schedule of "shakedown" training hikes and skill-building outings to ensure the crew is fully prepared for departure. (Age 14+)

• Community Service & Local Impact Grounded in service, Troop 637 regularly plans and participates in projects that make a lasting difference across Douglas County. From hands-on conservation efforts—such as trail maintenance and wildfire mitigation —to supporting nearby schools, food banks, and civic organizations, our Scouts learn the power of giving back. Additionally, through capstone Eagle Scout projects, our older youth lead major community initiatives that leave a permanent positive mark on Castle Rock that create lasting benefits for our entire community.

• Recognizing Achievement: At Troop 637, every milestone counts. Through the merit badge program, Scouts explore a wide range of fields—from wilderness survival and first aid to environmental science and robotics—building practical life skills and discovering new passions along the way. To celebrate these hard-earned accomplishments, our troop hosts a biannual Court of Honor ceremony. This special event brings families, friends, and leaders together to formally recognize each Scout’s rank advancements, merit badge achievements, and exceptional leadership, honoring the dedication and effort they put into their Scouting journey.
